Young Transients

A prime use case for real-time alerts distributed by surveys such as the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) and, in the future, LSST and Ultrasat, is to identify non-recurrent transient events as early as possible. This allows closer studies of a typically explosive process and coordination of possible follow-up observations.

The live AMPEL instance continuously monitors streams for potential young, extragalcatic transients. To minimize the amount of false positives driven by subtraction artifacts, events with few detections are required to occur close to known nearby galaxies.

We here keep a listing of likely young extragalactic transients discovered during the last week, with references to the Transient Name Server (TNS) and typically front-ends such as AstroColibri. Note that this list is automatically generated and non-permanent.

As with all AMPEL workflows, the search can be locally reproduced with the ZTF configuration file provided here.
